Girls Take Charge

Own It!
YES - girls can and should own the helm!

empowerement

Living in a coastal community, I can think of no better gift to give a young woman than the skills to confidently pilot a boat.

Since so much of my recreational time is spend on the water, I want my own daughter to not only love the experience, but also realize that her place is at the helm.

I want her to understand that girls and Moms are just as capable as being in charge on the boat as boys and Dads. Of course, I am implanting the idea that this is how things should work on land as well!

LITTLE GIRLS

Little girls learn about safety on board. This is the window to let them know that we believe in lifejackets, sitting down when the boat is underway, and never riding on the bow! Clear and consistent messages make the safety part of boating fun!

Our littlest captains will love participating in Summer Camp or After School Programs with other girls their age.

TEENS

I look forward to the day when my daughter and her friends recreate on the water together as teens. And when that time comes, I want to know that she can just as easily manage the boat (hers or theirs) as any of her boy friends. I want her to feel comfortable speaking up, or taking the wheel if a “day at the sandbar” turns south, or if the designated captain needs help navigating a way home.

Class Schedule

This two day class will get you on the way to boating confidently! We will learn:

  • Preboating safety

  • Rules of the road

  • Navigation

  • Basic Knots

  • Boating with precision

  • Maneuvering in tight spaces

  • Docking

  • Navigation

  • Anchoring

Class start time is flexible in this private course. Each day we will be on the water for 4.5 hours. The cost of the two day class is $700 and includes all course material, a snazzy boating bag, instructions for at-home follow up lessons.

Refresher Class

Schedule a refresher or a reset if your daughter has skills but needs to formalize some of the details. I will tailor a class to meet her at her skill level to get her on her way to taking charge of the boat. The half day class (4.5 hours) is suitable for up to 3 young women and costs $350. A comprehensive “home work” program will be included as a take home for independent follow up.
